2010 Project Update

On April 10, 2010, a team of volunteers from Education in Action left Canada for Guatemala. Here is and update from Roberto on the their ventures and the 2010 Project.(/P>

I have in contact with the volunteers in Guatemala. The group is now in Livingston and this morning they will be heading to Antigua. According to Janet and Joan the experience at the community was great. The group was able to finish 4 houses including doors, windows and floors. They visited Cerro de Oro and Quixaya where Cafe Justicia is processed and they also visited the previous housing projects. We can say our mission has been accomplished.

The work done so far is amazing, we have build 56 homes in four years, paid a teacher's salary for four years, contributed towards buying the drier machine (half of the total cost), and the water project for the processing plant at Cerro de Oro.

This year we donated $800 to the Cuban Medical brigade in Haiti to help them with their valuable help before, during and after the earthquake.

I'm very impress and thankful for the commitment and the amazing job being done by all the expedition volunteers and coordinators, the volunteer who collected clothing and medical suplies, the donors, the musicians, our treasurer, our web administrator, coffee sellers and buyers. A big appreciation to all the volunteer who helped organize and take the lead in all the fundrsainig events. And special gratitude to PSAC and World Accord for their continuing support from the very beginning.

We are already getting ready for next year's project; some volunteers are selling coffee for collecting money for the teacher salary and for the 2011 project.

Our efforts paid off when we see happy families, workers receiving fair salaries, children having access to education, and volunteers learning in the field that another world is possible when people care.

Congratulation to all involved in the 2010 brigade,

Roberto
