Donations to the CCDA Emergency Fund
Good afternoon everyone,
Please take note that the cheque for your donation should be written to Co Development Canada. In the memo please write CCDA emergency fund. Also I would like to express my gratitude to Louise Casselman (Social Justice Fund,) Janet and Colette for their prompt response and for sending the money to Steve Cafe Justicia. Also to Larry for placing the appeal letter on the web. Last but not least a big thanks goes out to all the volunteers who have helped the project in the past until now. With your help a better world is possible.
Our next activity will be lead by Simone Powell who is organizing a fund-raising event at Jean Mance Building, Health Canada.
Have a nice weekend!
Roberto
Good afternoon everyone,
I would like to congratulate all the EIA; and Cafe Justicia members, Cafe Justicia supporters for their great work. And to the PSAC Social Justice Fund and World Accord for helping us bring hope to the disadvantaged. As you know, the CCDA have been facing challenging times as an organization. First the robbery of coffee at Cerro de Oro, followed by tropical storm Agatha and most recently storm Alex including the persecution of the Leader of the organization Leocadio Juracan and his family. During these trying times, the CCDA have faced all of these circumstances with dignity and with tremendous spirit and supported to the communities - providing shelter, food and medicine to some communities.
Many organizations have contributed to AID of the CCDA with emergency funding. Education In Action and Café Justicia have made significant contributions to emergency funding to help with AID for the CCDA deal with all of these urgencies.
Education In Action forwarded all the monies raised at the Ottawa Art Festival along with donations received from individuals and EIA volunteers as well as PSAC Social Justice Fund yearly contribution.
Following is the break-down of monies sent:
- $ 6,000 – PSAC Social Justice Fund from the 2011 housing project
- $ 900 – donations from individuals and EIA
- $ 2,000 – Ottawa Art Festival
- $ 3, 000 – for cover the teachers’ salary in El Esfuerzo.
The objective for the 2011 EIA housing project and in support of the teacher’s salary in El Esfuerzo is to raise $25,000 from events held throughout the year, from coffee sales and from the Annual EIA Community Dinner.
Update on El Esfuerzo:
Yesterday, we received word from our friends at Café Justicia BC that the monies forwarded from EIA and Café Justicia Ottawa were definitely going to be a great help to the communities severely affected especially El Esfuerzo. Several EIA volunteers visited this small community which has been struggling for years trying to produce crops on land that is not fertile and a difficult area to access water. During the recent storms in Guatemala, all the crops and seeds planted in El Esfuerzo were washed away by the tropical storm Agatha. The monies from the emergency fund will help purchase new seed to help with future crop planting in this impoverished community.
Once again, thank you for your support and solidarity with people who continue to resist oppression and work toward creating change for a better future.
Roberto
